Campus Square

In 2003, BIA was recognized for "engineering excellence" by the American Council of Engineering Companies of PA for the civil and structural engineering design of Campus Square.
Campus Square was planned by Lehigh University to house 250 students, provide parking for 350 cars, and offer retail space to the University bookstore (Barnes and Noble) and other tenants. The project was also intended as a catalyst for economic development in the adjacent South Side business district.

BIA provided surveying and civil engineering design for the University and structural engineering design for the architect, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson of Philadelphia.

BIA worked on a fast-track design and construction schedule for the $25 million project, developing civil and structural engineering design when only broad architectural concepts were in place. The project also had to work around utility and communication lines that bisected the site, since moving the lines would have delayed construction and added $500,000 to the budget. Design work began in 2000 — and the completed project was put into service in Fall 2002.

Campus Square is another successful result of the long-term relationship between BIA and Lehigh University, with projects that include the restoration of the historic University Center, improvements to the President's House, and the renovation of Packer Chapel.
