Community Centers

Community centers provide gathering places and activities that enrich the lives of area residents. Barry Isett & Associates has been privileged to provide an array of engineering services in the design of centers of various sizes and scopes.  Representative projects are listed here.

Arrowhead Lake Community Center

Pocono Lake, Monroe County, PA

Arrowhead Lake is a gated community of year-round homes just minutes from both the Big Boulder and Jack Frost ski areas.  In 2009, BIA was retained to provide structural and mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection design for a new 12,400-square foot community center that features a great room, banquet facilities, a commercial kitchen, a game room and administrative offices.  BIA provided site visits during construction.

Lake Naomi Club

Pocono Pines, Monroe County, PA

Lake Naomi Club serves the residents and guests to two resort communities, Lake Naomi and Timber Trails. BIA was the structural and mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering consultant in the design of a new 48,000-square-foot community center and indoor sports complex.  Amenities in the 8.5 million-dollar project include an indoor pool, indoor tennis, a fitness center, a game room, and activity rooms to appeal to all family members.  The lobby is pictured to the left.

Hanover Township Community Center

Hanover Township, PA

BIA provided the structural engineering design for the 27,000-square-foot community center which is open to township residents seven days a week. The offices of the township’s year-round recreation staff are housed are as are a 2,200-square-foot meeting room, a full-size gymnasium,  a fitness room, classrooms, game room and an aerobic studio Photos of the building are included below.

Outpatient Oncology Center at Mercy Suburban Hospital

East Norriton, PA

Ground is expected to break this spring on a new 12,000 square-foot state-of-the-art outpatient oncology center at Mercy Suburban Hospital in East Norriton, PA.  Barry Isett & Associates (BIA) is the civil engineering consultant, working directly for the hospital.  BIA also conducted topographic surveys to facilitate the project. Approvals were on a fast-track schedule; BIA was awarded the project in October, 2010; land development plans were ready for the March Board of Supervisors meeting to receive final approval. 

Designed by Cross Castner Architects of Wayne, PA, the eight-million-dollar addition will feature eight chemotherapy suites, an image-guided linear accelerator, a high-dose radiation suite, multi-disciplinary clinics, treatment rooms, a family resource center and a conference center.  A healing garden is also planned.  Principal Charles Cross, AIA is the project architect.  The team worked in close association with Bob Ochs, project manager, with the CID Group, which is providing construction management services to the hospital.

This is the second civil project designed by BIA in association with Cross Castner Architects.  The first, designed to achieve LEED Silver accreditation under guidelines established by the US. Green Building Councils’ Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design program, was a 15-million dollar two-story addition to the hospital.

Grand Eastonian Suites

Abandoned in 1989, the hotel remained closed for nearly a generation with significant damage on the interior and upper levels.  In 2004, the building was acquired and renovated as a condominium with great care for the surviving historic features, while combining the upper levels’ 170 hotel rooms into 30 suites.  This use has restored numerous elements of the original building as well as retaining its original elevator lobbies.

BIA provided all engineering services in the conversion of a historic hotel into 30 luxury condominium suites, with street level retail and service uses. 

BIA Construction Services prepared a property condition assessment. 

BIA Civil provided the landscaping, as well as parking lot design. 

BIA Environmental identified and coordinated the removal of underground storage tanks. 

BIA structural reconfigured interior space, and designed building repairs and modifications, which included elevator shaft modifications, repairs to cracking concrete floor slabs and terrazzo, and repair of deteriorated concrete floor joists.

The Inn at Charles Town

New Construction of 92,000 SF, 150-room, first-class facility. The Inn at Charles Town is located on the grounds of Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races - a vintage pre-World War II entertainment palace that offers fine dining, off track wagering, slots, multiple movie theaters, banquet facilities, and lounges.  The Inn at Charles Town offers comfortable guestrooms and features 18 spacious suites, all with views of the thoroughbred racetrack.

DeSales University – Billera Hall Addition

CENTER VALLEY, PA

The Structural Engineering Department of BIA designed a 35,000-square foot addition to Billera Hall, the recreation center of DeSales University, Center Valley, PA.  The six million dollar, two-floor addition included a new gymnasium, a fitness center, locker rooms, a kitchen, and a new entrance to the building.  A balcony overlooks the action providing spectators with clear views of all sporting events.  BIA has also provided civil engineering design for numerous campus projects.
