BIA provides engineering services to the City of Hazleton in the administration of the City's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. BIA provides the City's Community Development Department with the documentation required for compliance with the program rules and regulations. Since 2000, the City has received $2.3 million in CDBG funding. Our work includes:

  • Hazleton Commerce Center Storm Water Project - Redesign of a road to alleviate storm water problems.
  • Playground Redesign - Upgrade of the Pine Street, Arthur Street, and Beech Street playgrounds, including redesign to accommodate new equipment, safety upgrades, and ADA accessibility requirements. New features included outdoor hockey rink and soccer field, tennis courts, and basketball courts.
  • Street Reconstruction/Paving - The design to upgrade, improve, and repair 14 streets.
  • Blighted Building Demolition - Environmental audits and lead and asbestos assessments of abandoned industrial buildings prior to developing demolition cost estimates and bid documents. Construction observation services during demolition.
  • Operation Overcome Building - Structural and Mechanical/Electical/Plumbing (MEP) design of ADA-mandated building improvements, including automated doors, wheelchair-accessible rear entrance, and restroom modifications.

Other projects include sewer rehabilitation, storm water analysis, MEP upgrades to the Pioneer Fire House, and design of a handicapped-accessible ramp for City Hall.
