In the spring of 2004, Olympus America Inc. announced plans to relocate its national headquarters from New York’s Long Island to Stabler Corporate Center in Upper Saucon Township and selected our firm to provide site design, approvals, permitting, surveying services, and environmental studies for its 62-acre campus. Well-known as a camera and video equipment producer, the Japanese company also specializes in the design and manufacture of opto-electronics equipment for the medical industry. Olympus’ move brought an estimated 700 high-paying jobs to the Lehigh Valley.
BIA put our team on a fast-track schedule working closely with EwingCole Architects and the client to develop preliminary and final site plans and obtain necessary approvals. The complex includes a three-story headquarters of approximately 334,000 square feet that houses executive and administrative offices, supply chain staff, information technology, and call center employees. A commons, that includes a 250-seat auditorium and a café, connects several sections of the steel, glass, and concrete-fronted building. As a consultant to other members of the project team, BIA also provided structural consultation concerning the building façade and construction survey services. Olympus opened in 2006.
