Client and Owner: Weis Markets
Weis Markets, a 52,000-square foot supermarket, opened in early 2000. The site, which ties into an adjacent strip center, straddles Lower Macungie Township and Macungie Borough. This presented complex zoning issues, stormwater management designs, and PennDOT requirements.
BIA was instrumental in coordinating a community relations campaign to allay the concerns of adjoining property owners. Our community efforts were instrumental in gaining approvals from both zoning boards, both planning commissions, the township supervisors, and the borough council.
BIA’s scope of services included:
- Boundary and topographic surveys
- Phase I and Phase II environmental studies
- Sketch plan and site plan development
- Obtaining zoning variances and approvals in two municipalities, as well as PennDOT approvals
- Coordination of site access and stormwater management with the adjacent shopping center
- Coordination of a traffic study that analyzed the traffic flows of two off-site intersections and the store’s proposed entrance
