Borough of Hellertown, Northampton County, PA
Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 11:50AM Since 2003, Barry Isett & Associates, has been the municipal engineer for the Borough of Hellertown, one of the oldest municipalities in Northampton County. Our services have included the review of land development plans and assistance in obtaining a successful grant for the purchase of geographic information system software. BIA conducted a review of the Borough’s Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance to identify means for the community to preserve its historic flavor and make other updates, including parking requirements, building coverage, and traffic studies. We also serve as Hellertown’s Building Code Official.
Aftermath of Hurricane Ivan
September 2004, the Borough suffered severe flooding in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan when the normally placid Silver Creek surged floodwaters through downtown, causing the partial collapse of the Depot Street Bridge and washing out a number of downtown businesses.
BIA assisted the Borough with the repair of six bridges damaged by the flood and repairs to the filter house at the municipal swimming pool.
BIA assisted with paperwork required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and joined with municipal officials in meeting with the local congressional representative to explain the extent of the Borough’s need to obtain federal funding.
Other projects since 2003 have included:
- Dimmick Park Master Plan
- Environmental and construction phase services in the Reinhardt School Project
- Hellertown Public Library elevator addition
- Grantsmanship in successful Community Development Block Grant and PA Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources applications
- A walkable community smart transportation study
- A continual program of ADA ramp improvements throughout the Borough
