BIA provided a range of engineering services to KCBA Architects in the design of the new 337,000-square-foot Lower Merion High School. Designed on a constricted site that contained the original igh school building, athletic fields, and a historic district administration office, the project required careful planning as the facilities were required to be fully operational throughout the three and a half year construction phase. Innovative site stormwater management strategies included an underground stormwater management system, the use of porous paving for sidewalks and parking lots, and bio-infiltration swales in the parking lot to collect rainwater. The project is slated to achieve LEED silver certification. In addition, the original building will be demolished, and the site will be regraded, and new athletic facilities will be built.
