Lutron Electronics Company, Inc. - Campus Expansion and Road Improvement

Coopersbrug, PA, 18036

Lutron Electronics Company, Inc., a leading world-wide manufacturer of lighting control systems and related products, selected Barry Isett & Associates (BIA) to provide engineering services in the expansion of its worldwide headquarters, located on a 60-acre campus in Upper Saucon Township, Lehigh County, near Coopersburg, PA.  Founded by Joel Spiva, who invented the solid state dimmer in 1961, the company has expanded its product line to over 10,000 items for residential and commercial use.

Working directly for Lutron, BIA has supplied a large range of engineering services including:

  • Survey
  • Environmental
  • Traffic Services
  • Landscape Architecture
  • Water System Design
  • Site/Civil Design
  • Municipal Approvals

Campus Building Expansion

Lutron’s growth necessitated:

  • 20,000 SF addition to the Product Development Building
  • A proposed new 250,000 SF, five-story office building
  • And a new five-level parking garage to accommodate 960 cars

In association with Cope Linder Architects, BIA is providing the mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering design for expansion project which went into design in 2006.  The phased construction began in 2007 and will continue for several years.

Fairmount/Jacoby Road Improvement

A road improvement project to accommodate the expansion involved the widening and reconstruction of about half a mile of Fairmount Street, which provides primary access to Lutron from State Route 309. Route 309 is a four lane highway with a traffic signal at the Fairmont Street intersection. Fairmount leads into Jacoby Road, which also required widening and the addition of a culvert.  BIA coordinated the construction of the Fairmont Road improvements with PennDOT planned improvements to Route 309, which took place in 2009 and 2010.
