Ground is expected to break this spring on a new 12,000 square-foot state-of-the-art outpatient oncology center at Mercy Suburban Hospital in East Norriton, PA. Barry Isett & Associates (BIA) is the civil engineering consultant, working directly for the hospital. BIA also conducted topographic surveys to facilitate the project. Approvals were on a fast-track schedule; BIA was awarded the project in October, 2010; land development plans were ready for the March Board of Supervisors meeting to receive final approval.
Designed by Cross Castner Architects of Wayne, PA, the eight-million-dollar addition will feature eight chemotherapy suites, an image-guided linear accelerator, a high-dose radiation suite, multi-disciplinary clinics, treatment rooms, a family resource center and a conference center. A healing garden is also planned. Principal Charles Cross, AIA is the project architect. The team worked in close association with Bob Ochs, project manager, with the CID Group, which is providing construction management services to the hospital.
This is the second civil project designed by BIA in association with Cross Castner Architects. The first, designed to achieve LEED Silver accreditation under guidelines established by the US. Green Building Councils’ Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design program, was a 15-million dollar two-story addition to the hospital.
