Montgomery County Community College

Blue Bell, PA

Loop Road

Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) requested BIA to evaluate the existing conditions of their Loop Road in two different aspects.  The motorists were not obeying the posted speed limits and were endangering pedestrians.  BIA designed traffic calming measures in the form of several strategically placed Watts speed humps.  The existing pavement was also evaluated and a rehabilitation plan was developed.

Coordinating with the contractor and BIA's Construction Management group, sample sections of the roadway were opened to determine the pavement depths.  A petromat and pavement overlay was determined to be the best action because of the shallow pavement depth found underneath the roadway's surface.

Black Box Theater and Music Center

In other projects, BIA provided structural and mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering in the design of a new Black Box Theater and Music Center.

The ground floor of the Science Building was renovated to enhance learning opportunities for students active in the performing arts. The project features a state-of-the-art theatrical control center, performance workshop space, soundproof music practice rooms, a choral classroom, percussion space, and a digital piano lab.

The theater, which can seat up to 125 people, opened in spring 2009.

BIA has also provided engineering design for laboratory improvements.
