BIA provided engineering services for the relocation of the Fort Washington Post Office. The project began in May, 1998, with an assessment of nine potential sites for a new facility. Based on the assessments, a location was chosen in an existing building at Fort Washington office park, due in part to the site's proximity to area businesses and better parking for customers and postal trucks. The building's total square footage was 28,200: the renovation used 17,000 square feet for community post office use (including a postal store, lobby, and sorting areas), with the remainder dedicated to inactive storage. BIA's responsibilities included designing an interim facility of approximately 12,000 square feet at the new location to accommodate operations while work on the permanent facility continued - and after the lease on the previous post office building expired.
