Barry Isett & Associates (BIA) has had the privilege of providing engineering design for a wide variety of recreational facilities, including field houses, natatoriums / pool enclosures, arenas and gymnasiums. Representative projects are included below.
DeSales University – Billera Hall Addition

The Structural Engineering Department of BIA designed a 35,000-square foot addition to Billera Hall, the recreation center of DeSales University, Center Valley, PA. The six million dollar, two-floor addition included a new gymnasium, a fitness center, locker rooms, a kitchen, and a new entrance to the building. A balcony overlooks the action providing spectators with clear views of all sporting events. BIA has also provided civil engineering design for numerous campus projects.

As a consultant to the architectural firm of Breslin Ridyard Fadero, Barry Isett &Associates, Inc. (BIA) provided the survey and the site engineering design and plans and structural engineering design for a single-story addition of about 9,800 square feet to the Capitol Union Building to house an Olympic style, six-lane competitive pool.
The project included the rerouting of sanitary sewer and storm sewer main new waterline lateral, new walkways, erosion control, and site grading. BIA also assisted in obtaining municipal approvals for the project. The addition ties into the gymnasium end of the building to allow easy access to the existing locker room and shower facilities. The building is masonry and steel construction with a façade of brick and cast stone. A curtain wall system admits natural light to the pool area which can also be observed from an adjacent outdoor patio. The addition includes filter rooms, storage, office space, and a toilet and shower room.
KidsPeace – Donley Therapeutic Education Center
ORCHARD HILLS CAMPUS, OREFIELD, PA

KidsPeace is a nationally respected hospital and treatment center for troubled youth. The largest KidsPeace facility is the Orchard Hills Campus located outside of Allentown, Pennsylvania. It is a massive 262-acre (1.06 km2) campus with such amenities as an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a ropes course, an apple orchard, playgrounds, a gym with wrap-around track, driving range, multiple athletic fields, recreation lounges and more. Pictured to the right is the natatorium, a BIA structural design project.
BIA also provided structural engineering in the subsequent addition to this facility, which included gyms, exercise rooms, lounges, and food service facilities.
Hanover Township Community Center
3660 JACKSONVILLE ROAD, NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, PA

BIA provided structural engineering design for Hanover Township Community Center in Northampton County, PA. The building pictured to the right includes a gymnasium and meeting rooms.
The Hanover Township Community Center was opened in 1996 at 3660 Jacksonville Road amidst the municipal complex. The Community Center is dedicated to provide recreational as well as educational programs.
This exceptional facility houses a 2,200 square foot meeting room, full-size gymnasium, fitness room, classrooms, game room and aerobic studio. The 27,000 square foot building also houses the administration offices for the year round recreation staff.
The Family YMCA of Easton, Phillipsburg and Vicinity

As a consultant to an architectural firm, BIA provided surveys, civil engineering design and structural engineering design for the construction of a 14,000 square foot addition to the Family YMCA of Easton, Philipsburg & Vicinity, located at 1225 West Lafayette Street in Easton, PA.
The project, which is pictured to the left and opened in 2005, added the Warren Hospital Wellness Center and the Fowler Family and Children's Wing to the original 1980s building, I
BIA also designed an expansion to the upper tier parking lot and drop off modifications for the new addition.
Big Bass Lake Community Center
GOULDSBRO, PA
Big Bass Lake is a planned leisure community on top of the Poconos. .In association with an architectural firm, BIA provided engineering design in mechanical, plumbing, and electrical system upgrades to the Big Bass Lake Community Center. The main attraction of the 7,300 square-foot recreational facility was an indoor pool. BIA designed repairs to the HVAC system to improve temperature and humidity levels in the pool area.
Glen Mills School – Field House
CONCORDVILLE, PA
BIA provided HVAC and plumbing design for a 12,000-square foot field house adjacent to the school’s football field. The facility included locker facilities, a training room, meeting rooms and coaches’ offices.
Haverford School Gymnasium
The mechanical, electrical and plumbing department also provided professional engineering review and the engineering seal for HVAC systems on the new Haverford School Gymnasium, which was a design build project. The three-story building of about 110,000 square feet includes a natatorium, two 30,000-square foot gymnasiums, a weight room/fitness center, squash courts, and locker facilities.
Superfit Arena
PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, PA
Originally built as a store, the 22,000-square foot building was renovated as a sports facility with hockey arena. BIA provided the HVAC design for the renovation.
Susquehanna University – Field House
SELINSGROVE, PA
BIA provided the structural engineering design for a new field house at Susquehanna University (pictured to the left). The 51,000 square foot addition to the existing building features a six-lane track, four multi-use courts and an observation deck. The remodeled section of the original building includes a new fitness center, locker rooms and offices
