What a dump!
A multi-apartment building in a three-unit urban complex experienced settling. Prior to bringing in Isett, the owners engaged a previous consultant who designed micropiles to anchor the corners of the building, but subsidence continued in the middle section. The Isett forensic engineering and geotechnical team conducted an investigation—learning that the mid-20th century building had been built on a city dump. Isett developed repair specifications that included the demolition of selected apartments to achieve access to the ground underneath, as well as shoring other parts of the building; installing micropiles to bedrock within 18” of each other; and pouring a new first-floor slab. Isett assisted with the bidding process and conducted construction inspection.
