The expanded canteen and retail store serves patients, staff and visitors at the Wilkes-Barre Veterans Administration Medical Center. Veterans residing throughout northeastern and central Pennsylvania and southern New York state receive out-patient and residential care for a wide range of medical needs at the Center.
The improved canteen facilities almost doubled the overall size of the kitchen and dining area to approximately 6,000 SF. A two-story addition connects the canteen to retail space through an open stair while providing views into the garden courtyard from the seating area. The retail area was expanded from 1,400 SF to 4,000 SF and provides space for optometry care.
