This year, we continued to build upon our work from the previous volunteer work with the Hospitality House. Essentially, the work involved us replanting the vegetable garden (“Matthew’s Garden”) and landscaping the outer perimeter of the garden.
We coordinated with the director of Hospitality House to see what vegetables and plants they would be interested in seeing in their garden this year, since they use them in their kitchens as well. They have been super appreciative about our past years’ work and they were thrilled with the work we provided this year.
Tasks for the project consisted of the following:
clearing the garden of any garbage/debris
tilling of the planting beds and the outer perimeter to prep the land for landscaping
planting perennials, grasses, shrubs, and small trees along the outer perimeter of the garden
replanting of veggies in “Matthew’s Garden”
mulching of the new planted areas, the walking paths inside Matthew’s Garden and around the existing trees and shrubs out front
There is still a little portion of land that needs to be landscaped, so we are hoping to get involved again next year – most likely to landscape that area, provide clean up, and replant the veggies again.
