Due to the collaborative efforts of the Municipal Grants Team from Barry Isett and Associates (Isett) and the staff of the Borough of Macungie, the borough was awarded a $750,000 Multimodal Transportation grant this week from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA). The CFA awards the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s (DCED) Multimodal Transportation Fund grants.
This grant is offered through a competitive process and requires the community to demonstrate the need for the award as well as the project’s impact within the community. This recent round of funding enables the Borough of Macungie to implement phase three of their Streetscape Improvement Plan. This phase of the plan will result in the replacement of sidewalks, 9,600 square feet of bricks, 40 new street lights, pedestrian and traffic signage and landscaping along four blocks of Main Street / SR 100 between Pine and Poplar Streets.
This project will heighten the impact of phase one—which resulted in crosswalks, ADA Ramps, and planted bump outs—and phase two—which funded the first round of “behind curb” improvements. This latest grant award will enable enhancements to continue further down Main Street.
Since 2015, Isett’s Municipal Grants team has helped secure more than $18.2 million in funding for municipalities throughout Eastern Pennsylvania. Projects supported by grant funding include water resource protection and education projects; recreation facilities, playgrounds, park amenities and greening; open space and land conservation issues; feasibility studies and site development planning; rails-to-trails projects; pedestrian, bicyclist, and intersection safety; historic preservation; stormwater management, native plantings, and rain gardens.
