Congratulations to July’s Values in Action winner Layla Denissen, recognized for demonstrating our Team value. As a Staff Engineer/Designer in our Municipal Engineering Services Department, Layla actively assists the project managers in any way she can. This includes a variety of work in different municipalities ranging from subdivision and land development reviews to stormwater and utility design in CAD, to construction inspections and attendance at public meetings (planning commission, board of supervisors, etc.). But her dedication to the team doesn’t end there—Layla has also stepped in to help with client events and health-related situations. When a colleague was running late for an event, Layla jumped in to print the materials and get the activity started until her colleague could join. Not only did Layla arrive early to meet with the client ahead of the event but she stayed to make sure the transition went smoothly and to remain engaged with the community longer. Her presence and support improved her colleague’s performance as a representative of Isett and helped to ease the stress. Just as Layla got back to the office that day, she learned another colleague was locked out of their car at a jobsite. Being a diabetic, time was of the essence, and Layla wasted no time coordinating a spare key and driving to the site to get the car unlocked. Back at the office, Layla helped fill out the lost key forms and checked in on her colleague.
Layla’s favorite parts about working at Isett are the people she’s met and the opportunity to do meaningful work in local communities. She moved to the Lehigh Valley shortly before working here, and this was a great starting point to begin building relationships and become involved in her community here in Pennsylvania. Some recent projects she’s worked on include various land development reviews—such as the Willowbrook Farms subdivision and land development in Allen Township where the plans include about 650 dwelling units—as well as a sanitary sewer rehab project for Salisbury Township and fire water line replacement design for EMD Electronics. What she loves most about the job itself is the variety of tasks and problems she encounters every day. She always loves learning new things, so a job where she’s constantly challenged is rewarding.
