Camp Mountain House Improvements
Barry Isett & Associates, Inc. (Isett) supported the multi-year redevelopment of Camp Mountain House, a back-country Girl Scouts camp, transforming it from a facility reliant on tent platforms and outhouses into a modernized camp destination with renovated lodging, indoor plumbing, showers, and expanded amenities. After initial plans for a new lodge were developed, the project evolved when the organization acquired an adjacent residence that was redesigned and repurposed as the camp’s primary lodge.
Expanding Camp Mountain House required overcoming significant wastewater and environmental constraints associated with modernizing facilities in a remote setting. The project team navigated complex regulatory reviews, site limitations, and groundwater protection requirements, including nitrate plume analysis and wastewater disposal evaluations, to identify a viable treatment strategy. Through technical analysis and close coordination with PA DEP, municipal officials, and project stakeholders, Isett developed a sustainable solution that supports the camp’s expanded facilities while protecting groundwater resources and the surrounding environment.
